Hello Everybody,

The last two issues have focused on specifics topics, but while that was going on, there has been a whole lot happening in the Internet world of news.  Let’s get caught up on “who’s doing what” in this fast paced business world.

++Quality Test

CyberAtlas is checking the Top 25 sites and seeing how they rate on quality.  They are checking for fast loading sites (20 seconds or under on 28.8 connection), broken links, and missing page titles.  See how your favorite site faired.  Yahoo wasn’t at the top of this list.

++Banner Ads – The Cost

Sometimes you buy banner ads, spend several hundred dollars, and still not feel like you’ve gotten any new business.  FlyCast is a banner advertising company that only charges you when someone clicks on your banner to go to your site.  At least you know someone went to your site when you pay the money.  Of course, there’s no guarantee that they’ll “buy” once they are there, but it’s better than a shot in the dark.  Is it worth paying 40 cents for every click?  For some companies it does provide some reassurance.

++Top 50 sites for January and February

It shows that we quit spending money during these months and had more “free fun” on the Internet.  A couple of “game” sites moved up and a porn site appeared. ;-)

It looks like eBay was one of the few ecommerce sites to hang on to a Top 50 site.  Ironically, news sites took the place of shopping sites.  Travel sites didn’t make it into the Top 50, but one or two will appear as spring arrives.

++Buying Cars and the Internet

It seems that 46% of car purchasers used the Internet to research their purchase choice BEFORE ever going to the dealership.  Hope your web site makes a good impression because that’s a whole lot of people and the number is rising.
