Hello Everybody,

Happy April Fool’s Day, one day early.  I toyed with the idea of sending out an April Fool’s Day newsletter, but one year I got one and it had links to articles that would have solved all the problems on the World Wide Web, for web developers.  Unfortunately, they were links to April Fool’s pages and it wasn’t that funny, cause I really needed those solutions, as did most web developers.  So, I won’t do the same to you.  Just the news as it appears in real time.

However, if you still want to play a joke on someone else, Jesse Berst has collected a bunch of joke software links that will truly embarrass and harass your closest friends.

++E-tickets show a weakness in online airline purchases

The recent “potential” US Air strike showed us that e-tickets weren’t as good as regular airline tickets.  Only one other airline would have honored e-tickets.  Since so many consumers, including myself, are purchasing airline tickets online, the industry needs to fix this problem.

++Looking for Contract Work

If you’re an independent professional, entrepreneur or small business owner, you know how hard it is to land those clients and the wonderful contract.  Now there’s a “job” web site that targets companies who want the “guru/independent professional” to work for them.  A great way for people and companies to post their needs and find the right professional for the job.

++Rating Online Businesses

I recently purchased some software online and when my order was complete, up popped a short survey asking me to rate my experience.  I did and then received a follow up email to see if I received the product and whether or not it was in good condition.  These results are added to the overall rating at BizRate.com.  Now, consumers can go there and buy from merchants directly or find out how a business “rates” with regard to quality, ease of shopping, etc.  This might be a way for small ecommerce sites to generate some traffic, get rated as a quality business and increase their sales.

++Don’t just focus on Christmas

Establish an easy to use shopping experience, lower prices, free shipping, excellent fulfillment, fast shipping and your customers will shop year round.  It makes sense, people return to their favorite stores in the “real world”, why not return to them in the cyber world.
