Hello Everybody,

Two things are “hot” this week, one in Hawaii and one for the rest of the world.

In Hawaii, the SkyBiz MLM is being pushed hard.  People are saying that they are making $15,000 a month selling these web pages.  Others are showing bank accounts where they’ve made more money than they could ever make in their lives. :-)  Much like the top-level folks at Mary Kay and Amway, they probably do have the money in their accounts.

One client and I did some number crunching and figured out that if you sold 75 of these web sites, which cost $200 to start, then you could make $15,000 a month.  Of course, that revenue is NOT ongoing and you have to sell another 75 of them to make the same amount the next month.

Assuming that you have the time and the customers that are gullible enough to buy something they can get for free, then go for it. :-)  It will cost you $200 to get in on the deal and then you simply have to sell a whole bunch more for the same $200.  Since you cannot buy from the company directly, you do have to find one of these individuals that is flashing their bank statement at you.  Then sign up.  Then start flashing your bank statements at others.

I wrote about this in depth in a previous newsletter.  If you’ve misplaced yours, I just put it online at:

The really big news this week involved Microsoft and the fact that the case did NOT settle after all.  Most folks (industry pundits) felt that it would settle and Microsoft would get off with a slap on the wrist for being a monopoly.

Not so.  They were found guilty of anti-trust violations and they are a monopoly.  Now on to the remedy hearing (punishment phase), set for May 24th.  Computer World has consolidated several resource links, including the entire opinion by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson.

++Quicken does great business online

I recently purchased my copy of Turbo Tax online and participated in BizRate’s evaluation of my experience.  In return, they showed me the satisfaction ratings of all other customers to the online store.  I wasn’t surprised to see that they rated very highly.

What did interest me was the number of customers that had rated the store.  There were 98,934.  That’s a whole lot of people.  Assuming they all purchased the lowest price item in the store $29.95, (I know I didn’t :-), they have made upwards of $2,963,073.30 in sales from the web site.  Hmmm… at least their web site has been paid for. ;-)

Most companies are saying that they sell only 4% of their product via the web and the rest is from regular stores.  This is probably true.  While 98,000 sales sounds like a whole lot to you and I, it’s probably a drop in the bucket of what they actually sell.

++Netscape 6.0 is previewed

On the heals of Microsoft’s problems, Netscape’s new owner, AOL, recently released the Preview version of the long awaited Netscape 6.0.  This version promises to fix all the “glitches” of the previous version being used and is supposedly more “design friendly” for web designers.  (One can only hope so. :-)  I haven’t done so yet, but if you’re interested it’s available for downloading now.

++One Billion Email Accounts by 2001

This article doesn’t mention it, but I had read where email accounts would surpass the number of telephones in 2001 and become the leading form of communication.  What it took the telephone 50 years to do has happened on the Internet in less than 8 years.  Can anyone say “warp speed”? :-)

For more statistics about email usage, companies providing email services and this form of communication that is taking hold, read the whole article.
