Hello Everybody,

I'm headed out for some R & R next week.  For those of you who do not recognize this term, it means rest and relaxation. :-)  If you have a crisis with your site, please feel free to email me at brenda@creativewriting.com or to call and leave a message at (703) 781-6160.  All emergencies will be handled, otherwise, see you when I get back.

This does mean that there won't be an issue of Marketing Savvy next week, so we'll "talk" again on the following Friday.  I hope each of you has a wonderful week.

Now...on to the news.

++Napster Loses - Sort Of

The biggest news this week was the judge's ruling against Napster and in favor of the recording industry.  The judge shut down the service on July 26th.  Napster immediately filed an injunction and was granted a "stay" so that they can still operate while the decision is pending its process through the legal system.

++Sleeping with the Enemy

At this week's Def Con, the FEDS outlined tighter restrictions against "hackers" that are trying to break into government systems.  Then, they invited this talented group of people to come work for the government.   The Pentagon's CIO says, "If you're thinking about what you want to do with the rest of your life, maybe you should think about this in a different manner. You should think about coming to work for us."

That works for me. :-)

++Working Adults Like Online Education

It seems that 54% of adults believe that this is the future of education.  The flexibility and convenience offered by online classes are the biggest pluses for busy adults.

++Who says that Porno Pays

DOW Chemical fires 50 workers for transmitting pornographic photos via company email.  Another 200 were disciplined.  They are the second large company to conduct an in depth investigation and then dole out serious punishment.

In case you need this to be straight out, do NOT send personal email to work email addresses.  This can then be tracked and you will get into trouble.  I cannot stress this enough.  Save your personal web surfing, online purchasing and joke email for the home computer.

++One Phone Number does it all

Do you give out 3 phone numbers so that people can reach you?  If so, you'll be interested in Jesse Berst's review of a product that gives you one phone number that will ring at all of your phone lines.  You won't have to worry about missing that call.

++Dr. Ebiz

Why can't you get a list of email address of top executives of top companies?  Too much spam is to blame.  He explains more about spam and about "web site" humor in this helpful article.
