Hello Everybody,
It's great to be on vacation,
but it is wonderful to get back home. We were in Idaho and the fires were
plentiful. It was sad to see so much of that wonderful country in
black. We weren't able to go white water rafting - the drought - however,
we did manage some hikes and the mountains were beautiful.
I hope everyone had a relaxing
week. :-)
Now...on to the news.

++Credit Card Fraud - Online
Apparently credit card fraud,
online, is 12 times higher than "brick and mortar" merchants.
Visa is trying to stop this by requiring new guidelines that will be phased in
over a one year period. Everyone who accepts credit cards online should
read this article. More details will follow as Visa sets out a specific
plan.

++Top 50 Web sites for July 2000
Will anyone ever knock Yahoo
out of the top slot? It looks like AOL is getting close. Again,
we're not seeing a whole lot of ecommerce sites, with the exception of eBay.
It looks like people are still on the Internet just for fun right now.
We'll see a change in September, but till then, everybody is playing games and
sending e-cards. :-)

++Training and Loans from SBA
The Small Business
Administration is helping to level the playing field when it comes to ecommerce.
They've announced 6 new online training classes. Jerry Lawson, an attorney
who works with SBA, sent me a memo stating that the SBA is expediting loans to
small businesses that are in or want to have an ecommerce business. It
looks like you'll need to call 1-800-U-ASK-SBA to find out more.

++Women - Another Milestone
There are now more women online
than men - just barely, but I remember a time when this wasn't the case.
So what do women want when they are on the web? Jesse Berst believes he
has the answers. With time at a premium, it only makes sense that women
can have more time with families and other activities they enjoy - if they can
buy and learn on the web faster than driving to the store or the library.

++Radio sells Dot Coms
You can't afford television ads
or even print ads - how about a cheaper alternative. That's what
Priceline.com did when it first opened its doors on the Web. According to
the Business 2.0 article, they bombarded the airways and it paid off better than
fewer television ads and only a few print ads. Since radio is economical -
compared to other mediums, maybe it's the best kept secret of Dot Com marketing.
