Hello Everybody,
For those of you that host your
sites on CreativeWriting.com's servers, you know that the past month has been
very busy with the server move. However, we're done and the new server is
humming along beautifully. The new email program works like a charm and
overall, it was definitely worth the dollar and time investment it took to get
us all on the latest server with the latest technology.
For 98% of the clients, they
didn't even realize this server move happened. For the other 2%... thanks
for your patience. Everybody loves to move into their "new
house", but packing and unpacking all those boxes sure is hard work.
We lived through it. :-)
That's over now and we're back on schedule with regular site updates and the
whole works.
Now...on to the news.

++Picking on Microsoft
We love the hate
Microsoft. We use their products, successfully, but we complain during the
whole process. Why? Jesse Berst says that it's our "duty"
to keep them in line. For a "tongue in cheek" look at what
Microsoft does "right" and what they do "wrong", read the
entire article.

++Networking Home Computers - Sharing Internet Access
So you paid for the DSL line
and/or that high speed cable connection. However, when you ask these
vendors if you can use that connection on all your home computers they
"disclaim" knowledge of how this is done - or simply won't help you
network your computers together.
In addition, you are vaguely
aware that there are security risks that revolve around having a
"network" of computers. You should secure your network - yes,
even the one at home.
This article is
"technical" in nature and will bore most folks, but for those that
have a "technical" gene in their bodies and want to do it on their
own, this article is a great "primer" for networking home computers to
share Internet connections.
Enjoy!

++Scrambling for Success
We've already seen many Dot
Coms hit the dirt and fold. It hasn't stopped and will continue to shake
our world. Tom Peters predicts that 90% of white collar jobs will
disappear over the next 10 years and the Internet will change all business
processes - as we know them. Do you have the "guts" to survive
this revolution? Some pretty strong statements are made in this article -
about the future of business and the Internet.

++Bank One trims the wings of WingSpan.com
Learn why this "online
only" financial institution has decided that you still have to have
"real world" banking locations. There are a few of us that feel
that the world is ready to go completely electronic. Unfortunately, we're
not in the majority and Bank One is facing that reality. They will still
be around for the minority, but will cut back spending on this "online
only" bank.

++Is the Internet just a "Snake Oil" sales job?
With people losing millions on
the Internet, even Dr. Ebiz is attacked for selling an idea that "could be
a pipe dream". How does he defend the position that small businesses
should "stick with it"? As usual his answers hit home.
Hang in there.

++Future Shock
This book was published in 1970
- and now we are living their original predictions. Information overload,
the inability to make viable decisions because technology is shifting so
quickly, not teaching our children how to survive in the future, and more.
Author, Alvin Tofler, explains how he feels now and what we should do about our
current predicament.
I'll warn you that the article
is 6 pages and that some of the concepts "wax philosophical", but it
is a superb read and introduces some ideas that explain how we got here and what
we're doing now - that will affect our future and the future of our
children.
Society, business and
technology - it's all mixed up right now. We've been "reacting"
to technology and it's time to get back to "solid business strategies,
incorporating our new relationships with our customers". Winning the
technology race - does not always produce a winner. Business 2.0 does it
again in hitting the "heart of the matter".
