Telecommuting Home Page
Welcome to my telecommuting page!

I've been telecommuting for several years now and it's wonderful.  People ask me how I became a telecommuter and are interested in telecommuting themselves. I can understand that because working from home is fun and I love it.

Anything you can do in front of a computer can be done from home.  People think that they have to be around the office or that they must be physically present for meetings.  There are all kinds of reasons that people feel that they cannot telecommute.  It simply isn't true.  I attend meetings via conference calls.  All communication can be made via phone, email or regular mail.  As a matter of fact, this form of communication is actually more efficient.  You don't waste time "milling around" waiting for the meeting to start.  Nor do you get caught up in the social time that generally happens when a meeting ends.

Fortunately, business are finally coming around and many are offering telecommuting programs.  My first telecommuting position was with a company, but the next organization that I worked for did not have a program.  It's probably no wonder why I started my own web design company and created my own "work at home" environment.  Since I'm the boss, I immediately put a telecommuting program in place. Required dress consists of anything comfortable and fuzzy bunny slippers.  Mine are pink bunnies, but any color will do.

The Internet has really made this possible for those of us who are able to telecommute.  There are many virtual companies in existence now and those are the ones that I generally work for as a web designer.  That's not always the case, but even when I work for a "bricks and mortar" company, they understand that I'm a web designer, that we have the Internet and that's how we work.  I haven't ever met many of my clients in person.  It isn't necessary - we use email, the telephone and the post office.

If 75% of your job is in front of a computer, you too, can work from home.  What's stopping you?  Use the search engine on this site and find out everything you ever wanted to know about telecommuting - like how to get that proposal approved by your boss.  Start today!
